Royals knocked by Blazers

Kamloops, BC. — The Victoria Royals were on the road tonight, taking on the Kamloops Blazers in their fourth and final matchup of the regular season. The last two meetings between the Royals and Blazers were closely contested, but the Blazers came out swinging tonight, besting the Royals 8-2.

 

Kamloops struck first with a goal at 6:04 of the opening frame, and they doubled their lead at 13:20. Reggie Newman had a close look in the dying seconds of the frame, but was unable to bury the shot and the Royals trailed 2-0 headed into the first intermission.

 

The Blazers widened their lead to three at 7:43 of the second period, but Hayden Moore tucked an unassisted shorthanded tally at 13:06 to get the Royals on the board. The Royals killed four minutes of a double-minor penalty in the second period, but Kamloops would go on to notch three more goals, and they led the Royals 6-1 after 40 minutes of play.

 

Kamloops earned two goals in the first half of the third period to take a seven-goal lead. Caleb Matthews scored a power play goal at 13:39, assisted by Odin Vauhkonen and Miles Cooper, but the Blazers came out on top with a final score of 8-2.
