“Get To Know” Series – Introducing Grant Reid
Grant Reid, Surrey, BC, was selected by the Victoria Royals with the 47th overall pick in the third round of the 2022 WHL Prospects draft held in May. The 15-year-old played his 2021-2022 season with the Yale Academy U15 Prep squad in Abbotsford, BC, where he registered 61 points on 20 goals and 41 assists over 30 games.

When did you first start playing hockey?
I started playing hockey when I was around four years old. My family watched it a lot and I enjoyed it. That motivated me to start.
What number do you wear, and does it have any meaning to you?
I usually switch between 15 and 19 based on what’s available. Growing up, Jonathan Toews was my favourite player, so I liked 19. But I’ve started wearing 15 the past couple of years. There’s no real meaning behind it, I just enjoy wearing it.
Who is your favourite athlete and why?
Probably Michael Jordan because he has a great mindset, is a really hard working guy, and not cocky at all. It’s the kind of guy I want to be.
Who is your hero and your biggest inspiration? Explain why
Probably my dad. He works really hard and has supported me throughout my hockey career. He helps me a lot mentally and physically.
What is your favourite thing about Victoria so far?
I love the city and the staff. They treat me so well. I’m excited for my future here.
What is your favourite meal?
Probably steak, mashed potatoes, and roasted vegetables.
What is your go to pump up song right now?
I don’t have one right now. But I listen to a lot of Kendrick Lamar before a game. He’s my favourite artist.
Name three places you want to visit outside of Canada
I’d like to go to Paris and Greece for sure.
What is your favourite movie of all-time?
That’s a tough one. Probably Goodfellows. It’s a great movie. I watch it with my dad.
Dogs or Cats?
Dogs
Do you have any pets? If yes, what?
I have a dog, so it makes me more of a dog person. She’s really hyper so I like taking her on walks. She keeps me energized.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Not really. I’m a pretty straightforward guy.
What motivates you to work hard?
The idea of winning. I always want to be the best out there on the ice and in the gym. I have that thought of being the best and winning all the time.
Have you ever had a nickname? What is it?
Reider or Ritchy
What do you enjoy doing outside of hockey?
I love to golf, hanging out with my friends, and going to the beach a lot. I live right next to it.
What is your message to Royals fans?
Come support us a lot. We’re going to have a hard working group.
