Whistle Goes Back to Back Shutouts
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Tri-City Americans 3-0 on Saturday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, taking a two-games-to-nothing lead on the Americans in their 1st round WHL playoff series.
Jackson Whistle made 30 saves for his second consecutive shutout and Rodney Southam’s first period marker stood up as the winner.
Leon Draisaitl also scored for the Rockets, who protected its one goal lead throughout the game, until Draisaitl’s 2nd of the playoffs. Tyson Baillie added an empty net goal in the win.
The Rockets outshot Tri-City 40-34 including 20-6 in the first period, but Americans goalie Eric Comrie kept his team in the game. At the other end of the ice, Whistle was also stellar, turning aside 11 shots in the third period, when the Ams were pushing.
The series now shifts to Tri-City where the Rockets and Americans will play games three and four on Tuesday and Wednesday in Kennewick, WA.
If necessary game five in the series will be back in Kelowna on Friday, April 3.
