Tigers Edge Rebels 4-3
MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Red Deer Rebels season came to an end Saturday, the Medicine Hat Tigers won game five 4-3 and took the first round series 4 games to 1.
The teams traded goals in the first period, Cole Sanford and Steven Owre scoring for the Tigers, Riley Sheen and Colton Bobyk scored for the Rebels. The game was tied 2-2 after the opening period.
In the second period, the Rebels took a 3-2 lead on a goal by Evan Polei. The Tigers tied it late in the second period on Steven Owre’s second goal of the evening.
In the third period, the two teams traded chances and it looked like this game was heading to overtime. A late goal by Trevor Cox, scored at 18:14, gave the Tigers the 4-3 lead. The Rebels pushed to tie it, but couldn’t find the equalizer.
Rylan Toth made 32 saves in the Rebels net; Marek Langhamer made 28 saves in the Tigers goal.
Red Deer was 2 for 7 on the power play and killed 4 of 5 shorthanded situations.
The Tigers now move on to the second round of the playoffs and will play the winner of the Kootenay/Calgary series.
