Kambeitz Powers Rebels to Win
On a day where the temperature read 30C at gametime, Adam Kambeitz scored two goals for Red Deer including the OT winner, as Red Deer defeated Edmonton 4-3.
IT was the Oil Kings who got off to the better start, jumping out to a 2-0 lead before the game was 10 minutes old. Josh Lazowski and TJ Foster would be the goal scorers. On the power play, Colten Mayor would put one in the top corner to draw Red Deer within one after one. Martin Gernat would restore the 2 goal cushion for Edmonton with a shot from the point 2:32 into the middle frame. In the second period, the Oil Kings would get into penalty trouble, and the Rebels would make them pay. John Persson banged home a rebound at the top of the crease making it 3-2, and Kambeitz fired a backhand into an open net to tie the game one minute late.
It only took 84 seconds into overtime for Red Deer to end it. Kambeitz fed a streaking Dumba in the slot, who then fired a shot off the post. The puck would land in the chest of Kambeitz, who managed to get a stick on the puck before it crossed the line.
Next action for Red Deer is a two game set in Northern Saskatchewan, as they take on the Blades Friday and Prince Albert Saturday.
