Rebels Victorious in Opener
Red Deer used a solid goaltending performance from Patrik Bartosak to carry them to a 3-2 SO victory over Kootenay on Friday night in the Red Deer Advocate Home Opener.
Mathew Dumba opened the scoring 3:12 into the first period on the powerplay, lifting a snap shot over a sprawling Nathan Lieuwen. Adam Kambeitz extended the lead early in the second on a goal mouth scramble. Kootenay would get one back before the end of the middle frame, as Erik Benoit banked one off a leg on the powerplay. Joey Leach would tie the game late in the third for the Ice, firing one from the blueline that eluded Bartosak. Red Deer fired 4 shots at the net in overtime, for a game total of 30. Kootenay created little in the extra frame, and finished the night with 32 shots.
