Better Late Than Never
Byron Froese scored twice as the visiting Red Deer Rebels tallied three times in the final 10 minutes of the third period to post a 3-1 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings in Game 3 of their Husky WHL Eastern Conference quarter-final series on Monday night.
The win gives the Rebels a commanding 3-0 lead in the series and leaves them one win away from advancing.
Daulton Siwak – with his second of the playoffs – also scored for the Rebels, who tied the game at 1-1 on Froese’s first of the period then took the lead when Siwak and Froese scored 20 seconds apart in the final two minutes of the game. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins chipped in two assists while Darcy Kuemper made 27 saves to claim the win.
T.J Foster scored the only marker for the Oil Kings, who went 0-for-3 on the power play and are now 0-for-12 in the series versus Red Deer. Jon Groenheyde made 19 saves in a losing cause.
The Oil Kings host the Rebels for Game 4 of the best-of-seven series on Thursday.
