Rebels fall 6-4 to Edmonton in pre-season finale
The pre-season has come to an end for the Red Deer Rebels following a 6-4 loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Saturday afternoon’s game was played in Morinville.
Red Deer led 1-0 after one period on Beckett Hamilton’s third goal of the pre-season.
Jeramiah Roberts, Luke Vlooswyk, and Nickolas Kovich scored to give Red Deer a 4-1 lead in the second period before Edmonton struck for three goals in 2:05 late in the frame for a 4-4 tie through 40.
Joe Iginla scored the game winning goal for Edmonton midway through period three. The Oil Kings added an empty netter with one second left to play for the two-goal win.
Peyton Shore started in net for Red Deer and made 30 saves on the 32 shots he faced. Taylor Tabashniuk played just under nine minutes in the second period, allowing three goals on nine shots. Alex Worthington and Parker Snell split the game for Edmonton with Worthington allowing three goals and Snell one.
Edmonton outshot Red Deer 40-37 and was 1-for-6 on the power play while the Oil Kings were 1-for-4.
Next up for the Rebels is the Red Deer Advocate Home Opener as they kick off the regular season versus Lethbridge next Saturday, September 21 at the Peavey Mart Centrium starting at 7 p.m. (TICKETS)
