Rebels battle hard but fall 3-0 in Medicine Hat
Newly acquired netminder Harrison Meneghin closed the door on the Red Deer Rebels Wednesday night to backstop the Medicine Hat Tigers to a 3-0 win Wednesday night at Co-op Place.
Medicine Hat ended its four-game losing skid while also defeating the Rebels for the first time in four tries this season.
STATS STORY
Harrison Meneghin (MH) – Shutout, 24 saves
Chase Wutzke (RD) – 25 saves
Matt Paranych (MH) – 1 goal, 1 assist
Andrew Basha (MH) – game winning goal
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tempers flared early in the first period as the Rebels and Tigers picked up where they left off.
In a back and forth, tightly-contested match, it took to the game’s midway point before the scoring opened in Medicine Hat’s favour. With Ryder Ritchie finding Andrew Basha all alone at the bottom of the right circle to beat Chase Wutzke with a top-shelf one-timer.
In the third, it was Medicine Hat’s Matt Paranych putting home a rebound pass off of Wutzke’s pad from Gavin McKenna for a 2-0 lead.
With just under two minutes to go, Markus Ruck found the empty Rebels net from his own blue line to secure Medicine Hat’s win.
Wutzke made save after save to give the Rebels a fighting chance, but Meneghin would not be solved on the night.
Medicine Hat outshot Red Deer 30-24 and was 0-for-3 on the power play while the Rebels were 0-for-4.
