HOCKEY TOWN NORTH NOTES: Last night the Prince Albert Raiders posted their biggest win of the season on home ice, 6-2 over the Red Deer Rebels to break out of a two game losing streak…Previous this week they lost 4-2 at home to Vancouver Tuesday and 5-4 here in Moose jaw Wednesday…The Raiders record stands at 16-26-3-2 (7-15-2-1 at home, 9-12-1-1 on the road, 1-3 in overtime, 1-2 in shoot outs) for 37 points, 9th in the WHL Eastern Conference, three points behind 9th place Edmonton… Last night the Raiders opened the scoring against the Rebels 6 minutes into the game then went up 2-0 6 minutes later…After the Rebels got on the board, the Raiders closed the scoring with a goal in the final minute of the first and led 3-1 after twenty minutes…Red Deer closed to within 3-2 six minutes into the second with the Raiders then scoring 3 times in a span of just under 4 minutes, the last two 9 seconds apart to go up 6-2 after the second with the third period scoreless…The Raiders had a season high 41 shots on goal out shooting Red Deer 41-35…When the Raiders lead after 2 periods they are 14-0-2-1, but when trailing after forty minutes are 0-21-0-1…The Raiders have 23 players on their roster including 2 twenty-year olds, 7 nineteen year-olds, 3 eighteen year-olds, 9 seventeen year-olds and 2 sixteen year-olds…The Raiders roster includes 10 first year WHL players.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Last night the Raiders struck for 2 power play goals on 6 chances against the Rebels…On the season the Raiders have scored 37 power play goals in 207 tries (17.9% – tied for 14th best in the WHL)…On the road the Raiders are tied for the 2nd best PP in the league (22/96=22.9%), but on home ice they are ranked #21 (15/111=13.5%)…Last night the Rebels did not score on 5 power play chances…On the season the Raiders have surrendered 53 power play goals against in 249 chances (78.7% – 18th in the WHL)…The Raiders have scored 3 short handed goals and surrendered eight short handed goals against.
UPCOMING GAMES: Tonight concludes the busiest part of the Raiders 07-08 schedule as it is their 14th game 24 nights since returning from Christmas and their fourth game in five nights…Tonight is the start o the Raiders longest road trip of the season – 8 games…Next week the Raiders start their tour of the United States Division visiting Kootenay on Friday, on their way through to the States…They are in Spokane one week from tonight, then Everett Jan.29, Seattle, Jan.30, Portland Feb.1, Tri-City Feb.2 before coming all the way back to Brandon Feb.8…The Raiders next home game is Feb.9 against Edmonton.
VS. THE WARRIORS: This is the fourth of six meetings between the Raiders and Warriors this season with the Warriors having won the first three: 4-3 in overtime Oct.12 and 4-2 Dec.1 in PA then 5-4 here Wednesday …Last year the Raiders were 5-3-0-0 against Moose Jaw (3-1-0-0 at home, 2-2-0-0 in Moose Jaw)…Over the past five seasons the Raiders are 20-20-4-2 (12-8-2-1 at home, 8-11-2-0 in Moose Jaw) against the Warriors…The Raiders venture to the Band City again Feb. 13 before playing again in PA Mar.7.

RAIDER REPORT: Max Brandl had 2 goals and Nathan Deck 3 assists to lead the Raiders against Red Deer last night…Other goal scorers were Justin Bernhardt, Ashton Hewson, Matt Robertson and Jared Jagow while addition assists were picked up by Andy Smith (2), Ryan White (2), Ryan McDonald (2), Robertson and Brandon Herrod…Dustin Butler was credited with the win in goal stopping 33 of 35 shots he faced…Robertson has 4 goals and 7 assists in the past five games to take over the team lead in scoring (43 pts) three ahead of Ryan McDonald…Deck has points (2G,3A) in the past three games…White has scored goals in two of the past three road games, his first two as a Raider…Bernhardt has picked up points (2G, 7A) in four of the past five games and has 29 points (12G,17A) in 30 games since being acquired from Kelowna Nov.1…It was Jagow’s first goal in a Raider uniform after being acquired just before the trade deadline, along with a 3rd round bantam pick from the Regina Pats in exchange for Ryan DePape…Brandl is tied for 10th in the league in first goals (5) and is 2nd among rookies for power play goals (8)…Jagow and Smith both hail from Rosetown…Jordan Trach suffered a concussion against Vancouver Tuesday and is out indefinitely…Wednesday’s game was the first one missed by Trach this season…Only Robertson, Deck and Hewson have appeared in all 48 games this season…Also at the trading deadline last week the Raiders dealt 20 year-old captain Jeff May to the Lethbridge Hurricanes for 15 year-old Brent Martin, 16 year-old Robbie Ciolfi and a second round draft pick…They picked up a 5th round draft pick from the Kootenay Ice in exchange for Zach Sim…With the moves 20 year-old defenseman White has been named Captain of the team with the Assistants Trach, Robertson and Hewson…Bryce Lamb has been out the past 34 games, since Oct.23…He suffered a broken wrist, which is healed, but Lamb is now out indefinitely with mononucleosis…Monday Team President Dale McFee announced the Raiders have relieved General Manager Donn Clark of his duties with the organization…Head Coach Bruno Campese will take over as the General Manager through the remainder of the 2007-08 season…Clark had been with the Raiders since the 2000-01 season, in his second term with the organization…Campese was named the 11th coach in the history of the team June 21, 2007 after being the Coach and Director of Hockey Operations of the Penticton Vees from 2004-07.
