Raiders select a forward and a defenceman at the 2024 WHL U.S. Priority Draft
The Prince Albert Raiders selected two players at the 2024 WHL U.S. Priority Draft on Wednesday. With their first pick, ninth overall, the club selected forward Gavin Burcar from the Anaheim Jr. Ducks 14U AAA program. In the second round, the green and gold went the defenceman route, taking Diego Gutierrez with the 31st overall pick.
Burcar, a product of Coto De Caza, California, played 51 games this season. The 6’1, 155lb forward scored 29 goals and added 33 assists for 62 points. He matched that by also collecting 62 penalty minutes.

From McAllen, Texas, Gutierrez was an assist machine on the blue line. In 56 games, the 6’0, 160lb d-man notched 66 apples to go along with 12 goals for 78 points. He was allergic to the penalty box, collecting just 4 penalty minutes.
