Kelly’s Overtime Tally Lifts Raiders To Win
Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders (4-4-3-0) went to overtime for the fourth time in five games on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
This time, they got the result they wanted when Parker Kelly scored in the extra frame to lift his side to a 4-3 win over the Saskatoon Blades (3-6-1-0). It was the Raiders’ first overtime win in that span, snapping a four-game losing streak overall.
The Raiders opened the scoring 4:45 into the first period. Jordy Stallard wired a shot through Blades goaltender Ryan Kubic for his seventh of the season.
In the second, Curtis Miske extended the Raiders’ lead with a power-play goal at the 13:22 mark. About a minute later, the Blades got on the board when Josh Paterson solved Ian Scott.
The Raiders’ held the one-goal lead into the third period. Parker Kelly put the Raiders up two with a shorthanded breakaway, which was his seventh goal on the year. Late in the third, the Blades got back within one on Caleb Fantillo’s power-play goal. Less than a minute later, a bad bounce in front ricocheted off a couple of skaters and got past Scott. The goal, which was credited to Chase Wouters, sent the game to overtime.
In the extra period, the Raiders had a couple of chances before Kelly ended the game. Stallard had the game on his stick on a breakaway, but was turned aside by Kubic. Shortly after, Max Martin walked in from the blueline and blasted a slap shot off the post.
On the overtime winner, Brayden Pachal broke into the zone with Kelly on a two-on-one. Pachal hit Kelly with a cross-ice pass and the Ottawa Senators prospect made no mistake.
Scott, who was playing in his first game back from injury, made 30 saves to pick up the win. Kubic stopped 23 Raiders’ shots in a losing effort.
The Raiders are back in action on Wednesday night when the Victoria Royals visit the Art Hauser Centre for the first time in two years. The game is a Never Waste A Ticket Night.
