Game Preview: Game 5 vs Edmonton
SETTING IT UP:
The Raiders will try and keep their unbeaten home record intact tonight with the Edmonton Oil Kings in town. Prince Albert is 2-0-0-0 this season at the Art Hauser Centre, with wins against the Moose Jaw Warriors and Regina Pats. It’s the first time this season that the green and gold will take on an opponent outside of the East Division. They enter the contest with an even 2-2-0-0 record. Edmonton, meanwhile, has gotten off to a good start this season, entering tonight’s game with a 2-1-0-1 record. It’ll be just the second road game of the season for Edmonton, and their first time venturing outside of Alberta.
FRIDAY RECAP:
A total of 23 penalties were called in Friday’s game against the Pats at the Art Hauser Centre, including two ten minute misconducts. The Raiders went 2/9 on their powerplay chances, while they killed off all seven Pats powerplays. Prince Albert got things going in the first period, as Ryder Ritchie opened the scoring on a man advantage. Corbin Vaughan tied things up in the first, but Niall Crocker scored a powerplay goal of his own to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Brayden Dube scored in the second period to put the Raiders up 3-1 heading into the third period, and that’s where things started to get interesting. Sloan Stanick scored with 8:56 left in the third period to make it a 4-1 Raider lead, but two quick goals by Regina with 2:49 and 1:49 left in regulation quickly made it a close game. The Pats nearly tied the game with six seconds left, but Chase Coward made a clutch save against Brayden Barnett on a breakaway attempt to secure the win. It was Coward’s first win in a Raider jersey.
