That’s all Folk’s, Hurricanes hammer Blades 7-2
Saskatoon, SK – After a thrilling shootout victory over Edmonton Tuesday, tonight in Saskatoon marked the first of 3 games in 3 nights for the Hurricanes. The Blades have dominated Lethbridge on home ice, posting a 7-1 record over the past 5 years, but 7 was the Hurricanes lucky number on this night.
Tonight’s Starting Lineup: G – Stuart Skinner, D – Griffin Foulk, Lenny Hackman, F – Taylor Cooper, Giorgio Estephan, Dexter Bricker
The Hurricanes seemed to pick up right where the left off just a few days ago in Edmonton. Captain Jamal Watson drove to the net and was stopped by Alex Moodie, but Zane Jones was there to backhand his 5th of the season making it 1-0 Canes just 1:51 into the game. In the final 5 minutes, the Hurricanes would look to add to their lead on the PP, but it was Cameron Hebig breaking in and beating Stuart Skinner with the shorthanded goal to level things 1-1. They announcers weren’t even done announcing that goal when Lethbridge would score on their PP only 16 seconds later when Carter Folk (Kade Jensen, Taylor Cooper) made it 2-1. Before the period was done, Lethbridge would strike again on the second of the game from Jones. Saskatoon couldn’t get out of their own end, they turned it over right to Riley Sheen who found Jones and with 1:07 left, it was 3-1 Hurricanes and that’s how the first period would end.
Lethbridge continued their onslaught in the second period and it only took 52 seconds. Watson (Riley Sheen, Kord Pankewicz) made it 4-1 for the visitors. It stayed a 4-1 Hurricanes lead until the 14 minute mark when former Hurricane Sam McKechnie stole the puck, fought off a check and beat Skinner shorthanded cutting the lead to 4-2.
Everything was going the Hurricanes way and they blew the game wide open on a pair of goals just 1:07 apart. Folk (Nick Walters, Bryton Sayers), made it 5-2 on his second of the game and then Folk scored shorthanded making it 6-2. The Blades were unable to get any momentum going while the Hurricanes couldn’t stop lighting the lamp. On another PP late in the 3rd, Zane Jones found Kade Jensen and from the top of the left wing circle he blasted a shot that found the back of the net for his first career WHL goal in his 54th game. That made it 7-2 and that’s how this one ended as the Hurricanes register back to back wins for the first time since January 29th/31st, 2014 when they beat the Raiders and Rebels. The Hurricanes were outshot 35-29 in the game, but finished the night 2/6 on the PP while the Blades were 0/7.
Tonight’s 3 Stars: 1 – Carter Folk (3G), 2 – Riley Sheen (3A), 3 – Stuart Skinner (33 saves)
