Ottawa, ON – The Lethbridge Hurricanes would like to congratulate Zach Boychuk and Luca Sbisa on their being selected in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft held Friday evening in Ottawa. For the Hurricanes, it was the first time in team history that the team has had a pair of players drafted in the first round of the NHL Draft in the same year while Boychuk ties Brent Seabrook of the Chicago Blackhawks at 14th as the highest drafted Lethbridge Hurricane of all time.

rNHL Central Scouting had the poised defenseman ranked 12th overall, but he slipped to the Flyers with the 19th pick. Why? Most likely because Sbisa resides in Switzerland.
rIt sounds odd, but it is probably true. Sbisa’s coach in the World Junior Championships didn’t utilize the smooth-skating defenseman the right way in the first few games of one of the biggest scouting events prior to the draft…
