Lethbridge scores single point in Saskatoon
Saskatoon,SK – The Lethbridge Hurricanes took a single point off the East division leading Saskatoon Blades on Friday night in Saskatoon as the Canes battled the highly touted Blades to a 4-3 shootout loss. The Canes were te first on the board as the recently streaking Mitch Maxwell tallied his second in as many games for his fourth of the season early in the first. Maxwell now has three points in his past two games. The Hurricanes would battle to take a 3-1 lead in the second as Mark Reners tallied his first of the season and Canes Captain Mike Reddington tallied a power play goal wit under five to play in the period. Saskatoon would respond with a pair of power play goals to tie the game 3-3 and force OT and a shootout.
The Canes Graham Hood, Ryon Moser and Alex Kuvaev were all shut out in the shootout as the Blades posted the 4-3 shootout win. Cane goaltedner Brandon Anderson posted 33 saves in the loss while Maxwell would finish with a pair of points (1G,1A) and Cam Braes would finish with a pair of assists.
Next up, the Canes take on the Prince Albert Raiders Saturday night in P.A. to wrap up their trio of East division games in four nights. Last season the Canes posted a 0-3-0-1 record against the Raiders – with their last visit to P.A. resulting in a 3-2 shootout loss. That night Graham Hood would be the hero of the day as he tallied both Lethbridge goals – the game tying goal coming with less then 30 seconds left to play in regulation – Linden Rowat posted 39 saves off 41 shots as the Canes stole the single point. All time the Canes hold a 65-47-6-1-1 record against the Raiders with a 25-31-2-1-1 record in Prince Albert.
