Hurricanes vs. Oil Kings Preview:
It’s the Oil Kings and Hurricanes for the second time this weekend as the teams play the third of their six games this season. Lethbridge had a day of rest in between games while the OK’s skated away with a 5-1 win over Kootenay last night. The Hurricanes are looking to get a win streak together (now winless in 5) while Edmonton’s won 8 of their last 10 and sit 4th in the Conference. These Division rivals split their first two games and against the Oil Kings, Russ Maxwell, Brady Ramsay and Jamal Watson all have two points, while Mitch Moroz leads way for Edmonton with 4 points. Overall, the Canes points leaders are Ramsay and Tyler Wong who have 20 points; Henrik Samuelsson has 33 points.
Last season, Edmonton won 5 of their 6 meetings. The lone Canes win was 6-2 on December 5th.

Nick Walters is playing in his 200th career WHL game tonight. Lenny Hackman played in his 100th career WHL game (Nov. 29th). Brady Ramsay played in his 200th career WHL game on Nov. 2nd and registered his 100th WHL point on Nov. 3rd. Macoy Erkamps (Nov. 6th) and Jamal Watson (Oct. 14th) played in their 150th career WHL games. Russ Maxwell scored his 50th WHL goal (Nov 8th). Tyler Wong (Oct 19th) scored his first career hat trick.
NEWS AND NOTES:
A NEW LOOK DRESSING ROOM:The Lethbridge Hurricanes have seen a few changes in recent weeks. The team sent Chris Tai to Brandon for an 8th round pick in 2015 cutting their crowded crease from 3 to 2 netminders. The Hurricanes also dealt Axel Blomqvist to the Victoria Royals for a 4th and an 8th round Bantam pick this year. Disgruntled Ryan Pilon found a new home in Brandon when he was sent there (on Nov. 16th) for (D) Nick Walters, (LW) Taylor Cooper and Prospect Tanner Browne, also a Defenceman. The rights to Colt Conrad were also traded to Brandon and if he signs with the Club the Canes receive a 5th round pick in 2016. Other new faces this season include D-man Tyler Bell who was picked up from Moose Jaw and Goalie Teagan Sacher who was acquired from the Regina Pats. The team also made a pair of deals with Seattle, trading Forwards Jaimen Yakubowski & Sam McKechnie to the T-Birds for 17 year old Forward Carter Folk, 19 year old, Forward Riley Sheen and a third round pick in 2015. The addition of these two reunited them with teammate Griffin Foulk who the Canes acquired via the Adam Henry trade. U17’s Come Calling: Team Pacific named their roster for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Rookie Giorgio Estephan was named to the team that will compete in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia from December 29th to January 4th. Last year, Kolten Olynek and Reid Duke competed at the same tournament. CENTRAL SCOUTING: On the Central Scouting November Watch List (released Nov. 14th) Reid Duke was listed as a ‘C’ North American skaters to watch. That means he’s projected to be a 4th to 6th round draft pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Duke has 6 points (1G, 5A) in 15 games this season. IN THE SYSTEM: Three of the Hurricanes 2013 Bantam Draft picks, Stuart Skinner, Jaeger White (Team AB) & Tak Anholt (Team BC), competed at the U16 Challenge Cup in Calgary. Team AB and Team BC faced off for Gold with Alberta winning the game 4-2. IIHF CHANGES TUNE:Import draft pick Kristian Khenkel will be returning the Canes after all. Khenkel will be eligible to return on December 22nd after his team plays in the World Juniors. GETTING A TASTE OF THE PROS: Two players attended NHL Camps this off-season Macoy Erkamps (Ottawa Senators Development Camp), and Josh Derko (San Jose Rookie Camp). Recently traded Axel Blomqvist had a tryout and later signed a 3-year, two-way entry level deal with the Winnipeg Jets. IN THE CAGE:20 year old Corbin Boes (acquired at the Bantam Draft from Brandon for the Canes 6th overall pick). Boes is 2-17-2-2 with a 4.29 GAA and .897 Save Percentage. Teagan Sacher is the back-up and is 0-1 so far. WHL GRADS: The WHL announced that over 300 former players are been awarded WHL Scholarships for the 2013-2014 academic year. That list includes more than a dozen former Hurricanes players: Cason Machacek, Mitch Maxwell, Ryon Moser, Dylan Tait (U of L), Mark Reners (Lethbridge College), Max Ross (Univ. of Calgary), Brennan Yadlowski (Univ. of Alberta), Cody Castro, Michael Tadjdeh (SAIT), Jordan Baillie (NAIT), Brandyn Hulit (Olds College), Drew McDermott (Univ. of Saskatchewan), Drew Hoff (Univ. of Regina), Derek Ryckman (Univ. of PEI), Albin Blomqvist (Scandinavian Top Athlete Center, Ronneby, Swe)
