CHL Import Draft Wednesday

Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will be taking part in the CHL Import Draft to be held Wednesday, June 27^th. The draft will commence via conference call and internet from the CHL head offices in Scarborough, Ontario at 9 am EST (7 am MST). The Hurricanes will be eligible to make a first and second round selection should they choose, as they hold the 25^th and 85^th overall picks of the 60 team draft. Last year, the Hurricanes filled both their available import spots with a pair of talents from the Czech Republic; Boston Bruins draft pick Lukas Vantuch and Ottawa Senators draft pick Tomas Kudelka. Vantuch was drafted 39^th overall by the Calgary Hitmen in the 2005 CHL Import Draft and was acquired in 2006 via trade, while Kudelka was drafted by the Hurricanes 45^th overall in the 2005 Import Draft.

Both players represented the Czech Republic in last year’s U-20 World Hockey Championships in Finland. Vantuch finished his WHL season with 21 points (6G, 15A) in 58 games, including four power play goals and three game winners. Kudelka tallied 41 points (14G, 27A) in 59 games, including seven power play goals and a team leading plus-minus rating of +20. Kudelka was the recipient of both the Hurricanes Sobeys Plus/Minus Award and the Lethbridge Dodge Top Defenseman Award. At the end of the Hurricanes season, he finished his 2006-2007 campaign with the Binghamton Senators, Ottawa’s AHL affiliate. While there, he was able to notch his first goal as a professional in a 4-1 win over the Syracuse Crunch.
