Canes Scrap for Single Point in Swift
Swift Current, SK – The Lethbridge Hurricanes played the Broncos tight once again, rallying for a late game comeback but a penalty in OT proved costly as the Canes lost their third straight on Wednesday in Speedy Creek. Mitch Maxwell got things started for the Canes scoring the only goal of the opening period just short of the eight minute mark for his ninth of the season. With that the Hurricanes leading scorer now has 20 points (9G,11A) on the season.
But the Broncos power play, ranked 7th in the WHL was able to go to work in the second period as they tied the game 1-1 with their first of two power play markers on the night. The Broncs then looked to put the game away with a third period goal with under nine minutes to play to take a 2-1 lead. But Neil Tarnasky – fresh off his first WHL goal on Saturday night notched his second with under five minutes to play to tie things up. But in the dying minutes of the game Tarnasky would be called for a hit from behind and a game misconduct to give the Broncos power play their seventh opportunity of the night as they tallied the winner just a minute into the OT period. Lethbridge goaltender Brandon Anderson had a solid effort between the pipes – making 36 saves on the night as the Broncos out shot the Canes 39-25.
The Hurricanes will be back in action on December 4th with a very special holiday tradition – the 15th Annual Canadian Tire/Global TV Teddy Bear Toss. All fans are encouraged to bring along a new stuffed toy donation to the game. When the Hurricanes tally their 1st goal of the night the teddy bears and stuffed toys will take to the skies of the ENMAX Centre as fans are encouraged to toss their stuffed toys onto the ice. Canadian Tire will be offering a special Teddy Bear Toss offer which includes a ticket to the game and a stuffed toy for $12.99 while supplies last!
