Canes Ready for Showdown in the Pass
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will take their 2-1-0-1 preseason record out to the Crowsnest Pass as they take on the Calgary Hitmen on Friday night from the Coleman sports complex in Coleman. The Canes will look to keep some of their momentum going from their big 7-2 victory on Tuesday over the Red Deer Rebels. Lethbridge will then do the quick turn around to take on the Hitmen in Calgary from the EDGE School arena.
Puck drop is 7:00 PM in the Pass and fans should note that tickets are still available for Friday night’s matchup in Coleman – simply contact Chad Petrone at 403-563-3558 (day) or 403-563-5102 (evening). Tickets are $10 a piece for advance tickets.
For Saturday’s game in Calgary from the EDGE School – Tickets go on sale at 5:00 PM and are only available at the door for this 7:00 PM match up. Adult tickets are $10, Students and Seniors $5 and kids 5 under get in free.
Storm Watch News and Notes:
– By the numbers: The Canes currently carry a roster of 26 going into the weekend not including their three NHL camp invitees – Cam Braes (SJ), Brody Sutter (FLA) and Brandon Anderson (WSH) absent. Three players have been reassigned so far – all 94-born players – Jaimen Yakubowski, Sam McKechnie and Ryley Bennefield.
– The New Kid: Jay Merkley, the Canes highest drafted bantam pick of all time (third overall in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft) is expected to be in the Canes lineup for their Saturday night game in his hometown. Merkley is a 5’10, 160 pound center who tallied 71 points (30G, 41A) in 33 games last season – good enough for fifth in scoring in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League. Merkley was integral in the Bisons capturing of the 2010 Provincial and League Championships, while collecting individual accolades as the winner of the AMBHL South Division Scoring title, South Division Forward Award and the South Division Most Valuable Player Award.
