Canes Prepped for Huge Family Weekend
Lethbridge, AB – With just 15 games remaining in the 2010-11 Regular Season the Canes are already playing playoff hockey as they look to scrap for every point this weekend with a trio of games. Entering tonight’s action – the Canes currently sit in 10th place in the WHL Eastern Conference with 47 points. This is two points behind 9th place Swift Current and six points behind 8th place Prince Albert and seven points behind 7th place Brandon. The good news entering this weekend for Lethbridge is that the Hurricanes currently have three games in hand on Swift Current and a pair of games in hand on both Prince Albert and Brandon.
The Canes will be looking to get one back as they went toe to toe with the Rebels last weekend in Lethbridge for 40 minutes – only to have some costly penalties caost them in the third as they fell 3-0. Friday’s match up with the high flying Red Deer Rebels is the fifth of six meetings with the Rebels in the 10-11 season resulting in a record of 1-3-0-0 with the first a thrilling 5-4 shootout win for the Canes in Lethbridge on Nov.24th, the second a 5-0 loss in Red Deer on Dec.30/10, the third a 10-2 loss in Red Deer on Jan.26/11 and finally a 3-0 loss on Feb.12/11 in Lethbridge. In the 09-10 season, the Canes posted a 1-5-0-0 record against the Rebs.

The Canes picks include 1st rd pick Jay (Johnathon) Merkley (Alta.); 2nd rd pick Macoy Erkamps (BC); 2nd rd pick Craig Leverton (SK) and 8th rd pick Remi Laurencelle (MB). Braden Scheidl was acquired via trade from the Portland WinterHawks and is playing for Team Saskatchewan.
