Canes lose 3-2 at home

Team will look to rebound Saturday night against the Vancouver Giants

rLethbridge, AB – The Canes came up short on Friday night in front of a crowd of 3868 as they dropped their 7th game in a row since the WHL Christmas break. The Raiders jumped out to an early lead before Drew Hoff answered back with a pretty goal in the second off a breakaway pass from Dwight King. The goal was Hoff’s seventh of the ’08-’09 season and eclipsed his previous season high of six. After falling behind 3-1, Austin Fyten was able to snipe his fifth goal of the year just six minutes into the third to give the Canes a chance. But in the end, the Raiders were able to kill off a last minute Canes power play to hold on for the 3-2 win. Goaltender Juha Metsola made 24 saves in his return to the ENMAX Centre after playing for his home country of Finland in the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championships.

rThis will be the second meeting between the Canes and Giants this season in what should be a premier WHL matchup. In their last meeting, Hurricanes starting goaltender Juha Metsola was able to stop 35 shots on net on October 25, 2008 in what ended in a 4-1 loss for the Canes on home ice. The new look Lethbridge Hurricanes will look to improve on their all time record of 4-11-2-1-0 against the Giants.
