Team Canada, boasting 10 current WHL players as well as graduate and Captain Curtis Lazar, skated to an 8-0 win to open the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship versus Slovakia on Friday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal. 

Kootenay ICE forward Sam Reinhart set up Robbi Fabbri for the game-winning goal 4:52 into the first period. Reinhart went on to add another assist while playing on Team Canada’s top line. 

Portland Winterhawk forward Nic Petan had a stellar night with three points (1g-2a) Moose Jaw’s Brayden Point and Calgary’s Jake Virtanen also enjoyed multi-point efforts with a goal and an assist each. 

Victoria’s Joe Hicketts and Kelowna’s Madison Bowey both chipped in with an assists from the blueline. 

Team Canada’s next game goes Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. ET when they take on Germany.
