Hurricanes Trade Pauls to Cougars
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Wednesday they have acquired a third-round draft pick in the 2024 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft from the Prince George Cougars in exchange for 2003-born defenceman Chase Pauls.
Pauls, 20, was undrafted in the WHL Draft and signed by the Hurricanes in 2019. The Osler, SK, product has skated in 30 games this season collecting nine points (2g-7a) along with 27 penalty minutes and a plus-8 rating. He marked a career high in goals (8) and points (22) in 68 games during the 2021-2022 season with the ‘Canes.
“Chase was a great Hurricane for a long time and was a key member of our leadership group over the last two years,” said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. “He exemplified hard work and persistence each and every day. We wish him all the best in Prince George and moving forward.”
In his career with the ‘Canes, Pauls appeared in 190 regular season games totaling 55 points (18g-37a) along with 128 penalty minutes and a plus-12 rating. He added one assist in eight career post-season games. The 6’5, 220-pound defenceman attended the Los Angeles Kings training camp in September.
The Hurricanes now have six defenceman on their roster and just two remaining overage players in captain Joe Arntsen and forward Blake Swetlikoff.
Lethbridge returns to action Wednesday at 7:00pm when they open the second half against the Swift Current Broncos at the ENMAX Centre before hosting the Red Deer Rebels on Friday at 7:00pm.
