Hurricanes Shutout 5-0 by Rebels
Red Deer, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes suffered their 10th-straight road loss on Saturday falling 5-0 to the Red Deer Rebels at Marchant Crane Centrium.
The Hurricanes entered on a six-game losing streak despite playing a strong game on Friday in a 3-1 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena while Red Deer entered after a 5-3 defeat to the Tri-City Americans on Friday. It was a fast-paced first period which didn’t see a whistle until the 7:16 mark. The Rebels outshot the Hurricanes 12-4 in the opening period.
The Rebels dominated the second period as they kept the Hurricanes hemmed in their own zone for most of the frame as Red Deer outshot Lethbridge 18-3. At the 8:54 mark, the Rebels doubled their lead when Tyson Yaremko burst after a dump in to beat out an icing call before rifling home a shot for his fourth of the season to make it 2-0; Kalder Varga and Jake Missura earned the assists on the goal. Red Deer continued to dominate in the second period and added another goal with 2:13 remaining in the frame when Varga was set up alone in front of the net to make it a 3-0 game beating Oaten with a deke to the back hand as the Rebels held the three-goal lead after forty minutes of play.
In the third period, the Rebels opened with 54-seconds left in a power play opportunity, and Red Deer would strike right as the penalty expired when Yaremko batted home his second goal of the game to make it a 4-0 game; Poul Andersen and Cameron Kuzma picked up the assists on the goal. The Rebels continued to dominate outshooting the Hurricanes 14-7 in the final twenty minutes and would add a late goal off the stick of Matej Mikes on a power play to make it a 5-0 final.
The Hurricanes were outshot 44-14 in the game by the Rebels. Lethbridge went 0/5 on the power play while Red Deer was 1/9 with the extra man.
