Hurricanes’ Morrison named WHL On the Run Player of the Week
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Brad Morrison has been named the WHL On the Run Player of the Week for the week ending April 29, 2018.
Morrison recorded seven points (4G-3A) and a plus-three rating in three games as the Hurricanes continued to clash with the Swift Current Broncos in the Eastern Conference Championship, with the Hurricanes winning a pair of home contests and dropping one road game.
In Tuesday’s 5-1 victory at home, Morrison record a hat trick and four-point performance. His sixth multi-goal performance of the 2018 WHL Playoffs featured him scoring the Hurricanes’ second, fourth, and fifth goals of the game for the first hat trick of his WHL Playoffs career. Morrison also added an assist on the Hurricanes’ opening goal of the game. He was named the first star of the game and first star of the night in the WHL.
Morrison’s performance in Game Three was part of a record-breaking night for the overage forward, who set the record for most goals in a single post-season by a Hurricanes’ skater. Morrison is presently tied with Wes Walz for most points by a Hurricane in a single post-season with 37.
A day later, Morrison played a significant part in another 5-1 win for the Hurricanes, collecting a pair of assists. Morrison assisted on the Hurricanes’ third and fourth goals in the game, earning his 11th multi-point performance of the 2018 WHL Playoffs. Saturday, Morrison picked up his 16th goal of the 2018 WHL Playoffs in a 4-3 loss on the road to the Broncos.
Closing in on the final two games of the Eastern Conference Championship, Morrison continues to lead WHL Playoffs scoring with 37 points (16G-21A) in 15 games. He’s added four power-play goals, one short-handed goal and three game-winning goals. He’s tied for the goal-scoring lead with Tri-City Americans forward Morgan Geekie and assist lead with Broncos’ forward Aleksi Heponiemi.
The 6-foot-0, 171-pound product of Prince George, B.C. recently wrapped up the regular season portion of his WHL career, recording 263 points (112G-151A) in 334 games between the Prince George Cougars, Vancouver Giants, and Hurricanes. His figures included 30 power-play goals and 17 game-winning goals.
Morrison’s honour marks the second time this season he’s been named the WHL On the Run Player of the Week and the fifth time a member of the Hurricanes has earned the honour. Morrison was originally selected by the Cougars in the first round, seventh overall, of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.
Trailing 3-2 in the series, Morrison and the Hurricanes will take to the ice Monday, April 30, 2018 (7:00 p.m. MT) for Game Six of the Eastern Conference Championship between the Hurricanes and Broncos at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, Alta.
