GAME DAY: Hurricanes Make Final Trip to Swift Current
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will end their 2022 portion of their schedule tonight as they visit the Swift Current Broncos at 6:00pm MT at the InnovationPlex.
The Hurricanes (20-13-0-1) ended a two-game losing streak in their first game back after the Christmas break with a 3-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday. Logan Wormald scored twice while Joe Arntsen added the other goal in the win; Harrison Meneghin made 27-saves in the victory. Lethbridge enters tonight 15-5-0-1 in their last 21 games while sitting with a 9-7-0-0 record away from home this season.
The Broncos (13-14-0-1) have been idle since December 17th after having their game against the Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday postponed due to poor travel conditions. Swift Current was last in action on December 17th when they earned a 4-1 win in Red Deer for their second straight victory. Broncos enter tonight with an 8-9-0-1 record at home this season.
Tonight will be the sixth of seven meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Broncos; Lethbridge has posted a 4-1-0-0 record against Swift Current in the previous five having won the last three head-to-head meetings. Rookie Tendy: Hurricanes netminder Harrison Meneghin was named the WHL Goaltender of the Month for November going 7-0-0-1 with a 1.96 goals against average and a .936 save percentage. Meneghin enters tonight with a 16-6-0-1 record, sitting four wins shy of becoming the 14th goalie in ‘Canes history to reach 20-wins in a season – he would become just the fourth rookie goaltender to reach that mark. He enters tonight 14-3-0-1 record in his last 18 starts.
Faceoff King: Jett Jones enters tonight as the WHL leader in faceoffs taken this season with 874 draws taken, averaging 25.7 draws per game. Jones has won 20+ faceoffs in a game four times this season, becoming the first Hurricanes centre-man to accomplish that feat on four occasions since the WHL began tracking faceoffs in 2017, surpassing Jake Leschyshyn and Giorgio Estephan – who both did it twice.
