STREAK SNAPPED IN REGINA
Regina, SK – Boston Leier had a goal and an assist as the Regina Pats beat the Calgary Hitmen 3-2 Friday night at the Brandt Centre.
The Pats jumped out of the gates building a 3-0 second period lead, aided by two shorthanded goals, to improve to 3-0-1 in their last four games.
The Hitmen got goals from Jake Virtanen who netted his 26th of the season and Brady Brassart who added his 19th in a comeback effort that fell short.
The loss snapped Calgary’s season high seven game winning streak.
Both clubs had 31 shots on goal with Pats goalie Dawson MacAuley named the first star.
The WHL’s Eastern Conference leading Hitmen are now 29-9-2-3. At 63 points, they sit 11 points ahead of the Swift Current Broncos.
The Hitmen return to home ice Sunday to host the Western Hockey League leading Kelowna Rockets at Scotiabank Saddledome. Game time is 4 o’clock.
