HITMEN FALL IN THE HAT
Medicine Hat, AB – The Calgary Hitmen dropped a 6-2 decision to the Medicine Hat Tigers Saturday evening on the road.
The Tigers, who built a 4-1 first period lead, received two-goal efforts from both Curtis Valk and Miles Koules, and single tallies from Blake Penner and Tyler Lewington. Rookie Adam Tambellini and Jake Virtanen, now with a team-leading 28 goals, scored for Calgary in the setback.
Hitmen netminder Chris Driedger made 22 saves through 40 minutes, while 1998-born goaltender Kyle Dumba turned aside 10 of 11 shots in relief during the final frame. Dumba, selected by Calgary in the fourth round (68th overall) in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, was called up by the Hitmen with Mack Shields being out of the lineup due to illness.
Calgary (30-11-2-3) returns to the Scotiabank Saddledome on Tuesday, Jan. 21 when the Hitmen host the Regina Pats (24-18-3-2) in the Pucks for Paws game in support of the Four Feet Companion Foundation (7:00 p.m., SN960 Radio Broadcast).
