Calgary Hitmen vs Red Deer Rebels
Red Deer, AB – Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a hat trick to lead the Red Deer Rebels to a 5-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen Friday night at the Enmax Centrium.
The Hitmen were missing five regulars as Justin Kirsch, Cody Sylvester, Jimmy Bubnick, Tyler Fiddler and Trevor Cheek all sat out due to injury.
Kris Foucault scored the lone goal for Calgary, shorthanded in the second period for his 23rd of the season.
Andrej Kudrna had four assists for the Rebels who also got goals from Mathew Dumba and John Persson.
Red Deer outshot Calgary 39-22. The Hitmen went 0-6 on the powerplay while the Rebels were 1-6.
The Hitmen are back in action tomorrow when they host the Swift Current Broncos in Calgary Mavericks Western night sponsored by the Rangeland Derby. Fans are encouraged to dress western.
To kick-off festivities, Guns of the Golden West will be on hand for a performance before puck drop.
In the first intermission, there will be an on ice chuckwagon race between World Professional Chuckwagon Association Drivers, Mark Sutherland and Codey McCurrach. Billy Melville, voice of the World Professional Chuckwagon Association, will be on ice to call the race.
Harry the Horse and the Calgary Stampede Royalty will also be in attendance.
Finally, during the Husky 3 Stars, Hitmen players will be throwing a Husky Dog and a Cowboy Hat into the crowd courtesy of Husky and the Calgary Stampede.
