Bean and Malenstyn headed to world stage
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club would like to congratulate defenceman Jake Bean and forward Beck Malenstyn on being selected to Team Canada’s 22 player roster for the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, August 10-15 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.
“This is a great opportunity for Jake and Beck to play with and against the top players in the world for their age group,” said Mike Moore, Hitmen General Manager and Vice President of Business Operations. “Both were strong contributors for us as 16-year-olds last season and with the experience they will gain at this prestigious tournament, it will be a terrific start to the 2015-16 Western Hockey League season for both players. On behalf of the entire organization and our fan base, we wish them and Team Canada all the best as they begin their pursuit of a gold medal.”
Bean, a 17-year-old Calgary, Alberta, product, just completed his debut campaign in the WHL, setting a franchise record for most points in a single season by a rookie defenceman with 39 (5g, 34a) in 51 games. He also registered six points (2g, 4a) in seven Hitmen playoff games.
Malenstyn, from Delta, British Columbia, is also coming off his rookie season with the Hitmen where the 17-year-old centre tallied 12 points (8g, 4a) in 51 games. He added a goal and an assist in 11 post season games.
Bean and Malenstyn were among 43 players invited to Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp which wrapped up earlier today in Calgary. They were also members of Canada Black at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
