GAME PREVIEW: CALGARY VS MEDICINE HAT – 03.19.23
HITMEN HEADLINES: The Calgary Hitmen (28-28-5-3), winners of two of their last three, are back on home ice this afternoon to host the Medicine Hat Tigers (28-27-8-1). Game time is 4:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome. It’s another Sunday Funday, presented by Brookfield Residential. In addition to $2 sips and snacks specials all game long, look for concourse activities from TELUS Spark and a cast of characters outfitted by the Costume Shoppe. There are also $6 Hitmen Happy Hour food and drink deals throughout the day and the final post-game family skate of the season. The Hitmen are coming off last night’s 2-0 victory in Medicine Hat. Brayden Peters made 23 saves for his third shutout while Carter Yakemchuk, on the power play, and Sean Tschigerl, into an empty net, counted the goals. For Tschigerl it was his 24th marker of the season to establish a new career high.
WHERE THEY STAND: The Hitmen hold the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot with 64 points, sitting two points ahead of Swift Current and one point behind Medicine Hat for seventh. The Broncos are off until Tuesday when they host Edmonton.
MEDICINE HAT: Today marks the sixth and final regular season meeting between the Hitmen and Tigers. Calgary is 3-2 against their Trans-Canada rivals, outscoring the Tigers 16-14. Riley Fiddler-Schultz (2g, 6a) leads the Hitmen with eight points in the season series while Sean Tschigerl (3g, 2a) is next with five. Shane Smith (3g, 1a), Cayden Lindstrom (2g, 2a), Dru Krebs (1g, 3a) and Dallon Melin (4a) are the top performing Tigers with four points each. Calgary is 9-2-1-0 in their last 12 home games with Medicine Hat.
