Training Camp Day 2 Recap
Vancouver, B.C. – The first full day of Giants Training Camp took place on Thursday, August 31 at the Ladner Leisure Centre, presented by Chevrolet.
Day two wrapped up with the first scrimmage, as 2007 and 2008-born players played 25 minutes of 4-on-4 and 25 minutes of 3-on-3.
After Team White jumped out to a 6-2 lead, Team Black stormed back in the second period to tie the game 6-6, only for Team White to pull away in the final minutes with two goals, plus an empty-netter, making the final score 9-6.
Standouts from the first scrimmage for Team White included Brett Olson, who had a goal and two assists, Rockston Ror-Chow, who had two goals, Caden Cail, who had two goals, and Jakob Oreskovic, who had two assists.
Oreskovic, a 16-year-old from Langley who was a first-round pick by the Giants in 2022, is one of a number of highly-talented 2007-born forwards at camp.
He was called up in December of last season for a handful of games and now looks to make the team full-time. Here’s what he had to say after Thursday’s scrimmage.
"Just want to show that I'm ready."
Giants 16-year-old forward Jakob Oreskovic got a taste of WHL action last season with 6 games. Now he's back for his 2nd camp, ready to make an impression.

Team Black got strong performances from Cameron Schmidt, who had a hat-trick, Aaron Obobaifo, who had a goal, and Tyus Sparks, who also had a goal.
Obobaifo, another Giants first round pick from the 2022 WHL Draft, played at Shattuck St. Mary’s prep school in Minnesota the past two years, and led their 15U AAA team in goals last season with 39 in 49 games.
He signed his WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement in May of 2022, at the same time as Oreskovic and Schmidt, and is now at his first Giants camp. Watch the video below to see how his summer went and what it’s like for him to be in the Lower Mainland.
"I felt great. It felt amazing."

Chloe Primerano was also a standout on Thursday, as she looked very comfortable in her second Giants camp. The 2022 Giants draft pick recently played for Canada’s Women’s National U18 team in Lake Placid for a three-game exhibition series against the United States, where Canada won all three games. Stay tuned for an interview with the smooth-skating defender, which will be posted tomorrow (Friday).
