The Vancouver Giants will be seeking revenge Wednesday night when the Red Deer Rebels pay a visit to the Pacific Coliseum. The Rebels, boasting the fourth best record in the league at 12-6-1-0, defeated the Giants back on October 29th, 5-2 in Red Deer.
Goaltenders will have to be at their best as these two teams boast 4 of the top 5 scorers in the league. Vancouver’s Craig Cunningham leads the league with 38 points, while his line mate Brendan Gallagher is tops in goals with 17 and second in points with 30. Wednesday will mark Cunningham’s 280th career regular season game as a Vancouver Giant, tying the franchise record set by Mitch Bartley. As for Red Deer, they feature Burnaby, B.C. product Ryan Nugent-Hopkins who is fourth in the league in scoring with 29 points and Byron Froese, who is fifth with 28 points. Froese, who was acquired from Everett in the summer, also leads the WHL with 5 game winning goals.
Expect to see a number of scouts on hand as both Nugent-Hopkins and Vancouver’s David Musil are both projected to be taken in the first round of next year’s NHL entry draft.
