Giants Drop 7-5 Decision in Kelowna
The Vancouver Giants lost their first game of the 2014/15 WHL season on Wednesday night, falling to 3-1-0-0 after a high flying 7-5 loss to the Kelowna Rockets at Prospera Place. David Brumm, Dalton Sward, Arvin Atwal, Carter Popoff and Jackson Houck all scored for Vancouver in the losing cause.
The G-Men got out to a strong start, taking a 3-0 lead in the first period. Brumm netted his first WHL goal just 2:05 into the stanza, knocking home a rebound from the slot. Sward would add a shorthanded marker as he beat Kelwona goalie Jackson Whistle between the legs with a pretty move in front of the goal. Atwal added the third goal of the frame, scoring from in close.
However, the Rockets would storm back with six unanswered goals in the second and third period. Cole Martin, Nick Merkley, Carter Rigby, Rourke Chartier, Madison Bowey and Tyson Baillie all scored to give Kelowna a 6-3 lead, but the Giants battled back in the late stages with power play goals from Popoff and Houck to make it a one-goal game. In the end, Bowey scored his second of the evening into an empty net to clinch the win for the Rockets.
The Giants will now return home to face the Swift Current Broncos on Friday at the Pacific Coliseum. Face-off is set for 7:30pm. For tickets, click here, or call 604-4-GIANTS.
