G-Men Take On Royals on Sunday
The Vancouver Giants (2-0-0-0) will host the Victoria Royals (1-3-0-0) at the Pacific Coliseum on Sunday in the second meeting of the season between the two clubs. The G-Men won the first matchup on September 20th, defeating Victoria 3-1 in the home opener at the Rink on Renfrew.
The G-Men will look to put another one in the win column on Sunday afternoon as they’re coming off wins over the Royals and Portland Winterhawks to start the season. Tyler Benson scored his first WHL goal in the Friday night victory over the Winterhawks while Vladimir Bobylev rippled the mesh for his first in the league, which proved to be the winning goal in the contest. Payton Lee has posted a 2.00 goals-against average and a .895 save percentage through two games this season.
Joe Hicketts had the overtime winner for the Royals on Saturday night as the Victoria club picked up its first win of the season, defeating the Kamloops Blazers 4-3. Hicketts, a native of Kamloops, was signed to a three-year entry level NHL contract by the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday. Victoria also had Keegan Kanzig and Austin Carroll back in the lineup after they were both returned from Calgary Flames training camp.
