Benson Returns as Giants Host Pats
The Vancouver Giants (9-13-0-0) will host the Regina Pats (12-9-1-0) on Friday night in the only meeting between the two teams this season. Face-off is set for 7:30pm at the Pacific Coliseum.
The Giants are coming off a 6-1 loss to the Prince George Cougars on Wednesday night. The Vancouver club made a trade yesterday, acquiring 18-year-old forward Dakota Odgers from the Swift Current Broncos for a 5th round bantam draft pick in 2015. Odgers, whose father Jeff played over 800 games in the NHL, has three points and 37 penalty minutes in 25 games this season. The Giants are also expecting to have Tyler Benson back in the lineup tonight. The 16-year-old has missed the last nine games.
The Pats come out west riding a four-game winning streak. Regina rookie Sam Steel was selected second overall in the 2013 bantam draft – one pick after Tyler Benson. Steel, who hails from Sherwood Park, Alberta, has tallied 15 points in 19 games this season. The Regina club also has Calgary Flames first round pick Morgan Klimchuk in their lineup. Klimchuk played four games under Giants coach Troy G. Ward with the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat last season.
