SPOKANE 1 CHILLIWACK 0 FINAL
The Spokane Chiefs won their third straight game as Drayson Bowman’s rebound goal with 24.5 seconds left lifted the Spokane Chiefs to a 1-0 win over the Chilliwack Bruins Tuesday night in Chilliwack, BC. The win was the second win in franchise history in Chilliwack as Spokane outshot Chilliwack 46-23 in the contest.
Despite outshooting the Bruins 13-5 in the first period, Spokane was unable to score as the two teams fought to a scoreless period.
The Chiefs would outshoot the Bruins again in the second period, this time 16-12, but both teams failed to score for a second straight period. Spokane killed off 3 Chilliwack power plays in the period.
Spokane outshot Chilliwack 17-6 in the third period, finally breaking through on Bowman’s rebound off of his shin on Jared Spurgeon’s shot from the blue line for the game winner in the final seconds. Jared Cowen also assisted on Bowman’s 15th goal of the season. Dustin Tokarski turned away 23 shots to pick up his league leading 4th shutout of the season before he and Spurgeon head to Team Canada’s selection camp in Ottawa for the World Junior Tournament later this month.
The Chiefs will finish off the first half of the WHL season with a three game homestand when they host the Seattle Thunderbirds both Friday and Saturday nights at 7pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on AM 790 KFAN beginning with Comcast Hockey Tonight at 6:30.
