Warriors beat up the Blades 7-1

The Moose Jaw Warriors scored 1:53 into the first period and never looked back en-route to a 7-1 trumping over the Blades at Mosaic Place Saturday night. The Blades came out flat in the first frame, giving up four goals, two of which coming on the penalty-kill.

“Embarrassing would be the best way to put it,” Blades forward Nik Zajac said. “We didn’t come ready to play, we weren’t ready to go, there was no passion, no emotion.”

Special teams played a major role in this one as the Warriors scored three times with the man-advantage while the Blades could only muster up one goal with the extra man.

“We just seemed to take one dumb penalty after another,” Blades assistant coach Dean Brockman said. “When you have a team that’s not playing very well, you get frustrated. We got to find it within ourselves to be a lot better.”

The Blades will have a few days to regroup before embarking on a three-game road swing starting in Edmonton on Tuesday.

“A lot of our guys got to look in the mirror and see what matters here over the next six games,” Brockman added. “We’re finding things out we don’t like, and hopefully we can change that in the next little while.”
