Veteran Benson Has Big Plans For 2012-13
Saskatoon Blades forward Brent Benson is gearing up for a big 4th year with the team.
Benson’s known for his hard work on the ice and that has carried over into his offseason and summer up until this point.
“The summer has been flying by”, Benson said recently. “Once the season was over, I got home and started working on the rigs right away. I worked 10-12 hour days and then trained every night once I got home. I did that for about two months and since then I’ve been strictly training for the season.”
When getting down to specifics Benson has done a few unique things in his training this offseason.
“Now that I’m done working for the summer I do my cardio in the morning at 10. Once I’m done that I swim 1K at the pool, then lift weights at night. I will also be in Saskatoon to skate on the treadmill, then attending skating camp right before Blades camp.”
Benson also touched on the fact that the Blades added some veteran players earlier this summer, acquiring Jessey Astles, Shane McColgan and Brenden Walker.
“The guys we picked up are all great players and they bring different skills and experience to the team. I’m really excited to see the positive impact that I know they will have on our team next year.”
Benson is one of the veteran players on the Blades and is entering his 4th full season with the team. He’s been through lots of ups and downs with the club and knows that the 2012-13 season could be one of the biggest in franchise history.
“Next year is a big year for our team and our city. Of course the ultimate goal for the entire year is to win that last game of the year.”
The Saskatoon Blades open training camp on August 30th and play their first home exhibition game on September 8th in Warman.
