Blades Lose to Moose Jaw 3-2 in a Shootout
Blades goaltender Tyler Oswald stopped seven of the eight shots he faced in the first period but was beat by Dylan Hood just past the halfway mark. Assists on the goal came from Jesse Paradis and Morgan Rielly. The Blades fell further behind in the second period giving up a goal to Michal Hlinka with helpers from AJ Johnson and Matt Grant at the 15:32 mark. The Blades went into the second intermission trailing 2-0 on the scoreboard and 22-10 on the shot clock.
The Blades pulled within one just under seven minutes into the third period on an unassisted goal by 17 year old Austin Daae. Hudson Morrison came close to tying the game in the dying minutes of the third but was robbed by Warriors goaltender Brandon Glover. With only seconds to go 17 year old Lukas Sutter threw a puck at the net in desperation which found its way past the goal line with one tenth of a second left on the clock to force the game to overtime.
After a scoreless overtime period the game went to a shoot-out where Moose Jaw’s Sam Fioretti was the only one to convert, lifting the Warriors to a 3-2 shoot-out victory.
Final shots on goal in the game were 36-22 in favour of Moose Jaw. Notable performances for the Blades included goaltenders Tyler Oswald and Adam Iwan who stopped 15 of 16 and 18 of 19 shots respectively.
Pre-season action continues Saturday night at the CUC against the Warriors. The puck drops at 7:05 and tickets are available for $10 (adult) and $5 (youth).
