Last time they met: Their most recent encounter in the regular season was at SaskTel Centre on Saturday Feb. 23rd. Two third period goals by the ICE forced overtime followed by a shootout where the Blades prevailed courtesy of then-rookie Kyle Crnkovic’s first shootout goal on his first career shootout attempt.
What it means for Saskatoon: The all important first win at home in front of the Blades’ faithful – especially important when Saskatoon play their next three games on the road after tonight.
The stat: 40. The Winnipeg ICE have averaged 40 shots on goal per game across their first two games of 2019/20. While a high shot number doesn’t always correlate with goals scored, the Blades would be wise to suppress that number.
The match-up: Winnipeg’s forwards vs. Saskatoon’s blueliners. The ICE’s forward group have been touted as skillful and speedy but will be put to the test against the Blades’ defensive group which itself been advertised as a strength for the Bridge City Bunch since the pre-season.
It’s a big night for: Secondary Scorers. With the subtraction of Ryan Hughes two days ago and the injury to Eric Florchuk, the Blades are going to need to score by committee with some of the ‘secondary scorers’ needing to lead the charge.
