Today – The Saskatoon Blades host their 3rd annual Welcome the World game featuring a special pre-game Citizenship Ceremony as 30 new Canadians will be sworn in at centre ice. The ceremony begins at 2:00pm with the puck drop slated for 2:25pm.
Once the puck drops, the Blades face a tough task against the league’s best team in the Moose Jaw Warrior. The Blades have gone 1-1-1 against the mighty Warriors this season, all three previous meetings were within a week of one another back in November. Braylon Shmyr has 5 points against Moose Jaw this season while Brayden Burke (9pts) and Tanner Jeannot (5G) lead the other side.
The opponent – Moose Jaw has only lost 7 games in regulation this season; one of them to Saskatoon back on Nov. 15th. They only have one regulation loss in their last 13 games and and employ the league’s top two scorers in Brayden Burke (1st – 91pts) and Jayden Halbgewachs (2nd – 89pts). Halbgewachs is also the first player in the league this season to reach the 50 goal plateau.
For Saskatoon – The Blades have shown they have another gear to shift into when the top teams come to SaskTel Centre which was proven last night when the Blades edged the Regina Pats 4-3 in overtime. So if Saskatoon can bring that same intensity again, they’ll have a shot to knock off the top dogs today, especially knowing they’ve already done so this season.
The lineup – Don’t expect too many changes after a big win last night. The quick turnaround could see a different starter in goal after Nolan Maier was tasked with 48 shots last night… but Tyler Brown is battling a cold so the rookie could get the nod again.
Injury report:
F Caleb Fantillo – lower body, 1-2 weeks
D Mark Rubinchik – lower body, day-to-day
