Tonight – The Saskatoon Blades make their first visit of the season to Brandon in their second meeting with the Wheat Kings. The Blades are looking to bounce back after a 6-4 loss last night on home ice to the Swift Current Broncos, while the Wheat Kings should be well rested having not played since last Saturday when they shutout the Kootenay ICE 2-0 in Brandon.
The opponent – The Wheat Kings were one of two teams with the night off in the WHL last night, so they should be ready to go. Brandon remains one of the top teams in the league in their own barn, but luckily for Saskatoon they have had better success on the road (5-3-1-0) and even better luck on Saturday’s (4-1-1-0). The Wheaties will also be without captain Tanner Kaspick tonight as he serves a one game suspension after being assessed a checking-to-the head major while representing the WHL versus Team Russia earlier this week.
For Saskatoon – Like last night’s opponent, the Wheat Kings get the bulk of their offense from 3 key forwards- one of which who is out tonight due to suspension- and speedy blue-liner Kale Clague who has 26 points in 15 games. So the game plan shouldn’t change too much, keep their top line contained and limit their chances on the power play. Secondly, don’t wait until it’s too late to play desperate. Pour it on early and keep the pedal down.
The Lineup – 16-year-old ‘AP’ Logan Doust remains with the Blades after being called up last week to fill the void left by Kirby Dach who has been away at World U17’s. Doust gives the Blades 1 extra healthy forward meaning a coaches decision will decide the scratch tonight. The Blades have also called up ’00 D Randen Schmidt from the Regina Pat Canadians of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA League as insurance on the backend as the flu bug continues to make it’s way through the locker room. Seth Bafaro could also be facing suspension after receiving a checking-from-behind major and game misconduct Friday night.
Injury Report
F Logan Christensen – upper body, 2-4 weeks
F Caleb Fantillo- upper body, due back next week
