Tonight – the Saskatoon Blades make stop #2 on their 4 game road swing through the Central Division looking for their 4th straight win. The Blades have 4 wins in their last 5 games and currently sit 6 points ahead of Prince Albert for the final playoff spot in the East, and just 3 behind the Regina Pats. This is the 3rd meeting of the season between the Blades and Canes… Saskatoon has won both previous contests.
The opponent – Lethbridge is in the midst of a 3 game homestand and they’re working on catching up to their arch-rivals from Medicine Hat for the divisional crown. The Canes are currently 5 points back on the Tigers, but hold 2 games in hand. A couple major deals at the deadline gives the Canes a new look with a familiar face between the pipes in former Blades netminder, Logan Flodell. Up front, Lethbridge gets a boost as 16-year-old phenom Dylan Cozens returns from injury this week. Cozens sits 2nd among rookies in scoring with 41 points in 42 games.
For Saskatoon – The Blades now have 61 points on the season and need to keep the pedal down. The playoff race in the Eastern Conference is getting tighter by the day as the Blades sit 6 points ahead of Prince Albert, 3 behind Regina, and 4 behind Brandon. The Blades special teams have been a difference maker this season vs Lethbridge going 3/9 on the power play and not giving up a single goal through 9 penalty kills.
