Tonight
The Saskatoon Blades (45-12-2-3) and Brandon Wheat Kings (30-27-6-1) conclude their season-series tonight at SaskTel Centre. The Blades hold a 4-3 edge, winning the last game 4-0 at Westoba Place on Mar. 2nd.
Saskatoon’s coming off an emotional 2-1 overtime victory on Saturday against the Edmonton Oil Kings on home ice. A point tonight in any fashion would secure the Blades first place in the Eastern Conference. The magic number for the Blades to win the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy for the top regular season team in the WHL is nine points (either points won by the Blades or lost by the Portland Winterhawks).
Who to Watch
Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick Brandon Lisowsky got an opportunity Saturday vs the Oil Kings that is rarely seen. The 5-foot-9 winger was awarded a penalty-shot in overtime to send SaskTel Centre home happy. With nearly 5,000 fans on their feet in anticipation, Lisowsky buried his 36th goal of the season to win the game. The Port Coquitlam, BC product set a new career-high in points of 71 with the franchise’s all-time leading scorer Frank Banham in the building. Lisowsky is one of the ironmen on the Blades roster this season, suiting up in all 62 games.
