Blades edge Broncos in pre-season matinee
Regina, SK – The Saskatoon Blades continued the pre-season schedule Friday afternoon in Regina taking on another division rival in the Swift Current Broncos.
For the second straight day the Blades surrendered the first goal of the game midway through the first period. The lone goal would hold up through the first period, but it wasn’t all bad for the Blades who managed to kill off four penalties while coming up short on their only chance on the man advantage.
Saskatoon even the scored in the second period thanks to Logan Christensen redirecting a point shot from Jackson Caller.
In the final period the Blades added two more goals and only gave up one to skate to a 3-2 win. Arjun Atwal registered his first of the pre-season and Cam Hebig ripped a shorthanded goal past Joel Hofer for his 2nd of the 2017 pre-season which held up as the game winner.
It was a busy night for both squads special teams, but it was the penalty killers out doing the power play units. Swift Current went 1/8 on the man advantage; the Blades were 1/6 with one short-handed goal.
Joel Grzybowski earned the win between the pipes for Saskatoon stopping 27/29 shots faced.
The Saskatoon Blades open the 2017-18 WHL regular season at home on Friday, September 22nd versus the Swift Current Broncos. Game time is 7:00pm at SaskTel Centre.
