Blades close out pre-season with win in Edmonton
The Saskatoon Blades will have a happy bus ride home after closing out the 2017 pre-season with a 2-1 win in Edmonton over the Oil Kings Saturday night.
A veteran goaltenders duel between a pair of overagers in Logan Flodell and Travis Child kept the game close. Neither team managed to score in the first period before exchanging singles in the second. Fort Saskatchewan product Kirby Dach broke the 1-1 tie late in the 3rd period with his second of the pre-season to win the game.
Logan Flodell was busy in his 2nd consecutive start, but the all-star netminder proved why he’s the uncontested number one to start the season between the pipes in the Bridge City, stopping 37/38 shots faced. Flodell was also key in the Blades’ penalty kill going 5/5. Last season’s leading scorer for Saskatoon, Braylon Shmyr, had two points (1G, 1A) on the night to end the pre-season once again leading the Blades in points with 7 in 3 games played.
Saskatoon finishes up the pre-season with a 4-2 record and should take some positive vibes into the regular season after winning in their last two outings.
The Blades’ management will now be tasked with trimming the roster in the coming days in preparation of the regular season opener on Friday at SaskTel Centre.
