Tri-City Herald: Silvertips shut down Americans

EVERETT — It’s that time of the season when teams must help themselves to points, and the Everett Silvertips took two big points off the Tri-City Americans on Saturday night.
The Silvertips scored three goals in the second period to break a 1-all tie and hand the Americans a 4-1 loss at Comcast Arena.
The Americans (45-17-1-2, 93 points) remain third in the Western Conference after Portland (96 points) beat Seattle 7-3 on Saturday. B.C. Division-leading Kamloops (93 points), which lost 4-3 in overtime at Kelowna, is seeded second.
Tri-City will play at Portland today, but no matter the outcome, the Winterhawks will remain in first place in the conference and U.S. Division.
Everett (19-37-1-8, 47 points) is eighth in the Western Conference playoff race, one point behind Victoria.
