Sportsnet CHL Saturday Showcase: Oshawa at Ottawa
This week’s edition of the Sportsnet CHL Saturday Showcase sees two heavy hitters collide from the Ontario Hockey League’s East Division as the Oshawa Generals (28-16-2-0) and Ottawa 67’s (33-9-3-1) face off on Sportsnet at 3:30pm ET/12:30pm PT.
Saturday’s contest marks the second half of a home-and-home series between the two squads, as the Generals and 67’s squared off Friday in Oshawa, where the 67’s came away with a barn burner 9-6 victory, led by left-wing Kyle Maksimovich, who scored a hat trick and added one assist, while left-wing Lucas Chiodo provided four helpers, and goaltender Michael DiPietro turned aside 32 shots for his 15th victory of the season. The 67’s now lead the season series, having won three of the five meetups, while Friday saw the Generals’ win streak snapped at five games.
Oshawa’s last regulation loss came on Jan. 6 against the 67’s in a 7-4 upset, led by a pair of four-point outings from Ottawa centre Austen Keating (2-2-4) and right-wing Tye Felhaber (1-3-4), while goaltender Cedrick Andree denied 29 shots to pick up the win. Felhaber leads the 67’s in team scoring with 49 goals and 32 assists in 46 games, while his 81 points slightly outpace North Bay Battalion right-wing Justin Brazeau (42-36-78) for top spot in OHL scoring and the race for Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy honours.
In Oshawa, centre Brandon Saigeon, a Colorado Avalanche prospect who was acquired from the Hamilton Bulldogs prior to the trade deadline, has become the Generals’ leading scorer, as he’s tallied 29 goals and 40 assists through 46 appearances. He’s trailed by left-wing Anthony Salinitri, a sixth-round pick by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2016 who was also added earlier this season in a deal with the Sarnia Sting, as he’s collected 36 goals and 25 assists in 46 contests.
The Generals and 67’s have one other home-and-home set for later this year, scheduled for March 9 in Ottawa and the following day in Oshawa when they will close out their eight-game season series.
Catch all of the action in the sixth meetup this season between the Generals and 67’s on Saturday on Sportsnet when the puck drops at 3:30pm ET/12:30pm PT.
